8 Reasons Why Living as a Rookie Will Give You an Edge

Often I find myself so eager to explore a new interest, a new friendship, a new way of thinking, as long as I can be certain of how everything will pan out.   No wonder many of my new efforts often die down eventually.  They never become a part of me.   Soon enough I find myself wanting to explore something new again —  basically craving some fresh excitement and the comfort of a clean state in another honeymoon period.

Well, we love being a fast learner, feeling self-motivated and confident in directing our own journey.  There’s nothing wrong with that, except when we become impatient and insecure with our own progress, and we turn all our benchmarks and milestones into a giant comparison trap.    The roles we most cherish — as a husband or wife, as a mom or dad, as a student, a professional, a volunteer for a meaningful cause — will become something we dread if we always try to act like a pro.  What can we do then, especially if we find ourselves right in the middle of a tough learning curve?

  • Should I speed up my efforts at all costs?
  • Should I quit or shift gear quickly before anyone spots my weaknesses?
  • Should I stay longer as a rookie? If so, what will I risk?

Here are 8 Reasons Why Living as a Rookie Will Give You an Edge:

♦   You’re more approachable so people are more likely to help you succeed.

♦   You won’t run out of steam because you understand the limit of a rookie.

♦   You show a steady level of confidence that often surpasses the veterans.

♦   You don’t need to quickly pursue another ____ because what you have is satisfying.

♦   You’re fun to be round because you don’t feel defeated all the time.

♦   Your humility will attract others to reciprocate and so they’re more likely to give you a break.

♦   Your rookie mindset will invite new opportunities because you’re not putting yourself in a box.

♦   You’ll love your life because you see progress towards your dreams and you enjoy the process along the way.

Whichever mindset you stick with, you’ll most likely repeat the same pattern else where in your life. What kind of cycle would you like to repeat?
